Description
This arrangement of “The King of Love My Shepherd Is”, based on the St. Columba hymn tune, is lower intermediate level, and can be played on pedal harp. It is in the key of A Flat Major. The piece begins and ends with rich chords. The treble melody is supported by a gentle-moving left hand accompaniment. The B section consists of an inversion of the melody which takes the piece into F minor for several measures. Near the end there is a tag of the last phrase of Amazing Grace. The range is 2nd ledger line C below bass clef to first ledger line A flat above the treble clef. This arrangement is best when the harpist takes liberties with the tempo.
The tune of St. Columba is found in many hymnals with a paraphrase text of the Twenty-Third Psalm. St. Columba, who lived from 521-597, was an Irish abbot who spread Christianity to the area now known as Scotland.
