Description
This beautiful slow air was composed in honor of Lady Mary Nugget (1694-1725). She was the daughter of Thomas, the Fourth Earl of Westmeath. When she married Francis Bermingham, the Twenty-first Baron of Athenry – she became Lady Athenry. Donal Sullivan lists Lady Athenry as a patron of Turlough O’Carolan. I imagine Lady Athenry as a dainty, energetic, colorful and interesting woman. Her household was a place Turlough enjoyed visiting.
In the key of G, the melody is divided evenly between parts. Dynamics are clearly marked. Score & Parts, 11 pages.
