Description
Grasswinds Duet from About Green by Tammy Naze and Cheryl Murphy. Text taken from the Watercolor Harp web site.
Tones of green are linked to our senses. They balance warmth and coolness, provide natural comfort and restore peace.
Imagine walking barefoot over the cool grass while overlooking the landscape; see the wind blowing through the tall plush grass like invisible, fluid waves. It’s like a dance between the elements of nature.
Both parts can be played on pedal or lever harps. The nature of this piece contains many recurrent patterns and as a result players have to keep actively counting. Both players must connect with the harmonic balance. This piece is designed for two harps to play as one sound; sometimes in harmony and sometimes as a friendly exchange, but always making one cohesive sound like the hum of the wind.
The harp is mesmerizing in a variety of ways. The wind vibrates. The harp vibrates. When the wind blows through the harp the strings vibrate. This piece captures the sound of the wind in the grass. Picture the wind blowing through the grass and feel the hum of the wind through the harp. Feel the effect of wind on the soul; standing on a bluff, the atmosphere swirling, a change occurring in nature, the physiological change of the season.
