We are so happy to have this book back as part of our inventory. It was one of the first books we carried when our store was very young. Way back then, the lever harp was not necessarily accepted with open arms by a majority of teachers. This book was very welcomed by students of all ages who played the Lyon and Healy Troubadour harp. Since then, of course, a multitude of fabulous lever harps have been created and the lever harp is now mainstream and well accepted. This book is timeless!
Barbara Fackler has this to say about her arrangements:
There are many creative ways to play these arrangements. Use them as a starting point and make the music your own. Dynamic markings have not been included in every selection in order to allow room for individual musical expression. A unique and thoughtful interpretation of any piece of music can be found by controlling the direction of the musical lines with subtle phrasing and dynamics. Use your skills to the fullest as you make decisions about this music. Music that suits your ear and abilities becomes the most satifsying to play and to share with others.
The solos exist independently of the ensemble parts which may be added as you wish. Harp duo parts can be combined with the instrumental parts as you wish. While the treble parts were created with flute in mind, any C instrument with the proper range can play them. The same is true of the bass clef parts which were created for cello. Adapt as needed. The intent of these arrangements is that they be accessible to as many harpists as possible. I have watched my students make creative use of this music, showing me interesting combinations and alterations as they incorporated their own ideas to the notes on the page. They’d pair two hymns together, not always using all of each, making my arrangements into their own personal expression. They have embellished the music by expanding chords, repeating sections, or changing octaves. It is my hope that you will do the same.
