My friend, Brook Boddie, passed away July 15,2020 at the age of 51. He was an excellent musician (harpist, organist and pianist), philanthropist and humanitarian. Brook always had a smile on his face and a song in his heart. I often referred to him as “a gentle giant.” When I heard of his passing, I took out my autographed copy of “Upon the Willows” and played it in remembrance of him. Seeing his name on the cover and knowing I would never see him again made me sad, but also inspired me to compose a piece in his honor and in his memory. “Stepping into Paradise” is that piece. It is enjoyable to play and contemplative to the ear. After reviewing it, one of my editors said, “I think this is the best piece you’ve ever written.” Another editor said, “Another masterpiece.” Not my words – theirs. It is in G Major, with easy page turns and no lever or pedal changes.
