Description
Renaissance Songes of the Merrie Jester by Robin Fickle is a cheerful collection of Renaissance tunes from England, France, Germany and Italy. This book contains music composed by Renaissance notables such as King Henry VIII of England and Lorenzo the Magnificent de’ Medici, the great patron of Michelangelo. Included are many dance tunes from Italian, French, Flemish and English sources such as John Playford’s English Dancing Master as well as many Elizabethan love songs from well known composers such as John Dowland, the royal lutenist. Short biographies of each composer are included. The easy to play arrangements are for the intermediate level player. A little more than half of the pieces are written in the key of G, most of the others are in F while a handful are in C and one is in D. Most pieces are written without key changes. However, pedal and lever harp markings appear in the few pieces that change key and fingerings are contained throughout. 35 pieces, pages, spiral bound. Also available as a PDF download. Those who enjoy this book will also love the companion volume, Renaissance Songes of the Merrie Cavalier, which is devoted to many of the same composers.
