Description
Three familiar and beloved hymn tunes. Rock of Ages is set in the key of B flat with melody in the bass clef. Right hand supplies chords for harmony. The piece modulates to E flat for the center section, comprised of a secondary melody supported by simple accompany, then back to B flat. After that key change, the song has a grander style with strong bass line.
My Life Flows on in Endless Song, also known as How Can I Keep from Singing, has melody of the first two phrases in mid-range with lullaby style arpeggios in the left hand. The harp simulates bell tones before transitioning into a two-voice section. The melody repeats in mid-range again, topped with delicate repetitive figures. Then the piece evolves into a broader style using glissandos before ending with delicate arpeggios.
I Will Arise and Go to Jesus starts with a single melodic line and evolves into a section of simple accompaniment under the tune. Middle section modulates from A minor to D minor with the texture consisting of two voices with melody in mid-range topped by a simple repeated motif. The piece becomes more rhythmically complex before returning to the original key. Last phrase is repeated and adorned with a few harmonics.
