Linda Larkin and John Philip Newell first collaborated in 1998 at a Ghost Ranch retreat in Santa Fe, New Mexico. John Philip, a Church of Scotland minister, selected scriptural texts to support his teachings and Linda composed the musical settings.
These chants are offered to enrich meditative practice. It is hope their simplicity makes them memorable, that they may be recalled in challenging moments, to be sung out loud or silently within the heart.
The accompaniments to the tunes are written for the resonant Celtic harp so tend to be minimalist, but also work for keyboards. Guitar chords are given.
Linda Larkin, M. Mus, MSW, lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where she has an active folk harp studio. She is founding director of High Desert Harps, a performing ensemble of 10 harps. She believes in the musicality of every soul, and in the power of music to return us to our Creator.
