Description
From the arranger:
“The various parts of the harp ensemble don’t have fixed roles in Willi Maerz’s arrangements, but each player gets a fair share of main melody, contrapuntal elements and accompaniment. Through his system of “Democratic Arrangement” the author aims to achieve a sound which is always flexible and three dimensional whilst avoiding any monotonous routine for the performers.
“[Ack Värmeland] became world famous mainly owing to Stan Getz’ version from the 1950s. As for the origins of the melody, while there seems to be no reliable information available, there is a striking resemblance to German Advent song “Maria durch ein Dornwald ging” (“Mary walked through a wood of thorn”), and also to the theme of “Ma vlast” by Bedrich Smetana.”
This arrangement features colorful glisses, eighth-note and quarter-note triplets, and a multitude of harmonics. Several cues are provided in the parts to aid the ensemble. Harps 1 and 3 are for pedal harp only, but Harps 2 and 4 can be played on either pedal or lever harps. Please note the purchase options below. ALL HARPS, LATE INTERMEDIATE/EARLY ADVANCED.
