Description
Light and lilting, these arrangements are reminiscent of a bygone era when a parlor piano and dancing furnished an exciting evening’s entertainment.
Soiree Polka features scintillating triplet rhythms and scale runs. Harp 2 plays mainly accompaniment of the “down-up” variety but, in the middle, gets to exchange sixteenth passages with Harp 1. The melody is sometimes accompanied by harmonics as well.
The Village Bells makes use of harmonics also, perhaps to emulate the titular instruments. Harp 2 again takes most of the accompaniment. A brief middle passage features an intriguing minor “Western” theme. The main theme is a sixteenth-note two-hand arpeggio.
In both pieces, the arranger splits fast, difficult motifs between the hands for facility. Pedal changes are clearly marked. Included are a score and two harp parts. PEDAL HARPS, EARLY ADVANCED.
