In writing the description for this selection, I’m finding the composer to be a very historical figure in the world of publishing. You’ve most likely purchased French music published by Durand Editions Musicales. Well, Marie-Auguste Durand (1830-1909) was the founder of that company. In 1870 he entered into a partnership and acquired Flaxland’s music publishing business. This publishing company later became “Durand & Cie,” which has specialized in the publication of music from French composers such as Saint-Saëns, Debussy, Ravel, and many French harpists, even to this day. Best known piece is his Waltz No 1 opus 83, written for the piano. Susann McDonald and Linda Wood Rollo have transcribed this waltz for harp. The editing is excellent. This interesting romantic composition can be viewed here. Valse in E-Flat Major.
