All About Strings
We have been supplying Bow Brand strings for many years at Melody’s. Located in Norfolk, England their motto is “The Sound of Tradition”.
You may have noticed new packaging. Quoting from a recent brochure sent to us:
“Today more than ever before the importance of looking after the world’s finite resources and reducing the footprint we leave behind is at the forefront of minds. To adhere to our social responsibilities, we have redesigned our packaging using recycled paper making our gut strings completely biodegradable – even the stickers we use to seal the envelopes are biodegradable. During the redesign process we realized that much of our packing is superfluous and that as our Lever Harp strings are now being made to the same exacting standard as our Pedal Harp strings, it is only the gauge that differs. Heavy and Light strings will continue to have separate packaging. Therefore our Pedal and Lever Natural Gut strings will have the same envelope dictated by gauge.”
Below, see old packaging on the Left (with plastic) and new packaging on the Right.

Below right: This tool is a micrometer, used to measure string gauges. You can purchase one at a hardware store or online. Most of them are digital now and pretty expensive, but if you can find a non-digital one it is more affordable.
